This event will feature opening and closing keynote presentations of Dr. Cathy Cohen and Dr Barbara Ransby respectively.

In this time of social change and the over shadowing issues of the current election year equipping the public with the tools of social justice to impact public policy and spark public dialog provides a prospective for public action. Says Dr. Flecia Thomas Director of University of Chicago African-American Academic Network and Program Coordinator for Affinity.

We are please to present the two keynote speakers Dr’s Cohen and Ransby who have each have such accomplished records on the topic of social justice. In addition our workshop presenters will bring to the public their experience and accomplishments in this field.

The questions and concerns of race, faith, and politics will be addressed in workshops on utilizing protest and negation on the road to social action. The workshops include: From Jail to Justice- a look at the today’s relevance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Letter from the Birmingham Jail. Stop the Madness Discussion Of the cycle of Oppressions. The Write Stuff – How to write letters for social change. Get with this or Get with That – How to Use the spoken word for political progress and social change. Taking It to the Streets – How to organize a protest march.

In addition there will be Resource Fair local and national organizations that are working in social justice to recruit members and distribute literature.
