I came to the making of "Railroad" by the route of empathy.

The painting featured, "Time Place, Place Time" was created in the early 1990s, and the poem came some timeafterward.

I don't believe the poem was directly inspired by the painting, but I did and do feel they make for a nice fit, stating my respect for all black culture.

Stephen Meade

Both were also deeply inspired by steeping myself in the writings of such luminaries as James Baldwin, Zora Neale Hurston, Lorraine Hansberry, Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen, and other ground breaking individuals.
