RIO DE JANEIRO -- Former University of Texas triple jumper Samyr Laine finished 10th at the 2007 Pan American Games at Joao Havelange Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Saturday, July 28.
The Newburgh, N.Y. native competing for Haiti jumped 50 feet, 8.25 inches (15.45m) behind a 1.3 wind reading.
Laine, who transferred to the Forty Acres after graduating from Harvard with one outdoor season of eligibility, had a strong opening half of the 2007 outdoor season as his mark of 53-6.25 (16.31m) from the Texas Twilight held the No. 1 jump for two weeks, and then No. 2 for the remainder of the outdoor campaign. In just a single outdoor season on the Forty Acres, Laine leaves his impression as the sixth all-time farthest triple jumper to ever wear burnt orange. He is the first person since 2000 to crack the elite top nine all-time Longhorn performers list.
