The São Paulo holding midfielder is prepared to be the target of jibes from rival players and supporters in the wake of a storm kicked up over the player’s sexual leanings. With a lawsuit in the courts the situation has been made public – very public…

Richarlyson will take to the Maracanã pitch tonight to face second-placed Botafogo in a match that will determine whether the Tricolor Paulista keep hold of the lead they snatched from the Cariocas at the weekend.

The game seems set to be overshadowed by a writ that the player’s lawyers have issued after a Palmeiras exec 'outed' the São Paulo man before a local derby, intending to use Richarlyson's supposed sexuality as a way of disturbing the balance at Morumbi.

"The provocations will be just like any other insults that get thrown during a match. I’m keeping calm about it but believe that people should really understand that it’s not about sexuality but about all beliefs and am going to court to avoid this sort of thing continuing in the press", Richarlyson told Jovem Pan radio.

The first round of his lawsuit caused a stir when the judge shelved the action, siding with the Palmeiras exec and ruling against the player under the allegation that the comments were about a "virile" sport and thus justified. Judge Junqueira junior is now under investigation and the case has been reopened.
