This is about how the marketers and advertisers of thi movie sought to market this movie toward the Black GLBT community by suggesting that there might be gay undertones in the movie and the fact that we would be so gullible to go see a movie based on a title like "pride". Seriously seeing the movie was advertised on channels like "Logo" and even advertised in magazines like "Clik" magazine.

The Movie “Pride” is it inclusion or a manipulative marketing ploy?
By Joseph Berry

I noticed that with the movie “Pride;” it was definitely a slick below the belt ad campaign definitely trying to prey upon some of our communities’ misconceptions of how the true word pride could mean so much more than what many people perceive it to mean. Seriously with the slang meaning of pride used so frequently; how was it possible to name the movie pride and not “PDR” and then use that play on words to try and manipulate the GLBT community especially the black segment of the aforementioned community to go and see the movie.

The advertising of the movie made me angry to see  how people targeted our Black GLBT community, thinking that regular advertising wouldn’t really have the movie seen by many (even though the movie was a good movie, I do feel like their marketing the movie mainly towards Gays and Lesbians; mostly within the Black GLBT areas was totally inappropriate). Truthfully the movie was an ok or good movie but to insinuate that there might be hidden gay undertones and that there are not a lot of straight men that think of swimming as a real manly sport was kind of uncalled for. I glad that the movie “Pride” kind of tanked in the theaters, it sends a strong message to advertisers saying we don’t like being duped into seeing a movie based on scheming marketers and shady ad campaigns to swindle our money out of our pockets only to make them wealthy and to help them gain notoriety. “We should be treated dignity and respect” to somewhat take a quote from the movie is what I could say to those marketers and campaigners; who think that we will fall for anything they bring our way just to say they tried to help us fit in with the rest of society.
