HIV+ MILITARY SOLIDER INFECTS 17 YEAR OLD BOY
An HIV-positive paratrooper pleaded guilty to assault Thursday for knowingly having unprotected sex with a teenager he met online. Pfc. Johnny Lamar Dalton, 25, who is a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, entered his plea during a court-martial at Fort Bragg. A military judge sentenced Dalton to 40 months in prison. The sentence included a reduction in rank and a dishonorable discharge. Dalton was ordered last November not to have unprotected sex after he was found to have HIV. State law also prohibits a person infected with HIV from having sex unless condoms are used and sexual partners are notified. Doctors discovered the 17-year-old had HIV during a routine blood test in February, and his mother notified military official. Dalton also pleaded guilty to violating a direct order, aggravated assault, committing an indecent act and using marijuana.
How disturbing is this? People already hate gays in the world and especially those who serve in the military. As an Air Force veteran I’m deeply disturbed. This man has acted irresponsibly and is going to pay the price for his deceit. This also can be associated with the military’s policy on homosexuality called, “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell”. If the military was comfortable with homosexually then maybe Dalton would have been comfortable with himself enough to not have unprotected sex. Who knows? Also, this most disconcerting fact is that this soldier infected a 17 year old boy. The boy’s life will be forever changed and there is nothing that can be done about that. He (the boy) in the laws eyes is not even a legal adult. This is a malicious act by Dalton and the military needs to make an example of him. 40 months ……..40 years sounds more like it.

Johnny Dalton has convicted this youngster to a life sentence, and deserves nothing less himself. Not only is his act irresponsible, it is crass and inhuman. Should this boy die from the infection, Dalton should be tried for murder.
The terrible damage that this sort of uncaring action does to the gay community as whole is huge, and we all shall pay, somehow, for what Dalton has done.
Gays are judged differently, more severely, by non-gays, especially in the gung-ho of the military world. Gay soldiers' lives can only be harmed by what this fool has done.
I am angry about this.

I disagree with the comments made thus far. Although I have not been tested for HIV, I would never condemn an individual to life. Who is to say that it will never be a cure for HIV? Both individuals made mistake. What if you were in his shoes? Do not throw stones if you live in a glass house. The HIV virus was dumped on the gay community to kill us off. Face reality. It is unrealistic for a particular segment of a population to be all of sudden predisposed to a certain pathology without a hint of vulnerability. This is hogwash if you believe that. It was just a way to get rid of a certain segment of the population that was considered "expendable." Gay people are generally hated, or at the very least disliked, so if you are gay why would you add to it?
