What can be said about this powerful beautiful black phoenix who has risen from New York City's Chelsea area, from controversy and from out of her own darkness in the world of drugs? Moving forward to a brand new day, what can be said about this proud, assertive, mother, grandmother, friend, multi-talented performer who's career spans "Broadway", television, comedy, producing, writing, directing, and singing, who has been known to think differently from the norm? Who has been known to think outside of the box?

She has been a godlike fire changing the world around her. Not by choice but by being herself. She was taught and she was allowed to dream. She dreamt that one day her prints would be in the cement at Mann's Chinese Theatre and not only are her foot prints there, her hands and braids are too. With a host of movies and awards behind her, Caryn Elaine Johnson, now Whoopie Goldberg, has done pretty well for herself, all within her own rules.

From Improv groups to HBO specials, to being the first person of color and women to host the Academy Awards. She continued to make changes, by God's grace and strength. There have been times when she was not understood by the African American community but still she was there, standing firm and non-judgmental.

When asked about her last name, Goldberg, and being Jewish, she explained that she's Jewish from her mother's side of the family. Up to this point, there were people who believed that the Europeans were the original Jewish people but if you study history, you will discover differently. I can also recall when Ms. Goldberg mentioned the possibility of having Chinese in her blood line, however, DNA test, broadcasted in the 2006 PBS documentary of African American Lives discovered her genetic makeup to be 92% West African and 8% European, still way before it became possible for such research, Ms. Goldberg, in her way was saying to the world that she is more than her hair, her face and her brown skin.

Perhaps her growing up in NYC gave her that thick skin but whatever the reason, it also gave her permission to become her own vision. Those that are close to her have commented on her brilliance, how well-read she is. She prefers to read a book than watch television. This is a person who dropped out of high school, who's survived an addiction to drugs, who was able to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Because of who she is and what life has revealed, her charitable causes are, homelessness, cancer, women's issues, education, AIDS, and children's rights. And lets not forget fashion, she has made dread locks fashionable. In her career she has won an Oscar (the second Black American female in the history of the Academy), Grammy, Emmy and Tony Awards.

Now added to her resume are: Radio host and TV Personality. When Rosie O'Donnell made her exit, there were rumors that other well known black female artist were in line for this post. But none could hold a candle to Ms. Whoopie Goldberg, who's so many things to so many people, however she has always wore her blackness with pride.

I have to say that I'm a regular viewer now, due to the fact that Ms. Goldberg, moderator, is comfortable with herself and rules the conversation with a firm yet caring hand. She's not afraid to give her point of view. She educates the other women, even Ms. Barbara Walters, when she will say in her polite way, to look at both sides of the coin. She knows what it feels like to be misunderstood. She knows what it feels like to be different just because you are. And she will tell you that being different is ok.

Not afraid of controversy, Whoopie decided to defend Michael Vick, the football player, who was accused of allowing dog fighting at this residence. Whoopie just stated that there are parts of the country that this practice exist. I totally agreed with her, being born and raised Queens, NYC, I've heard of dog fighting happening in the Bronx as well as Puerto Rico and parts of the south etc. Of course, there were many animal rights protesters and fans from all over the country, who understood her to point the finger. This was not the case. She just simply spoke of its existence. There are some who believe that this was said for ratings. Ms. Goldberg is so much bigger than that. On another show she mentioned that its been said that she likes "white men", she quickly made the correction, "I just like men!"

Now the dust has settled and Whoopie Goldberg has proven that she is, indeed, a queen. Hail to the Queen.
