Miss USA, Crystle Stewart

"I want to talk to people about how to set a goal and achieve it," she told The Associated Press after the show. "Because I just achieved my goal."

Crystle pointed out in the 57 year history of the pageant, that there are only a handful of black women who were crowned Miss USA. Her goal is to not only spread the word for empowerment and self-improvement to black women but to all women.

The next step for Miss USA is to compete in the Miss Universe pageant. Perhaps one day we will have one pageant for all women, instead of the other countless pageants such as Miss Black America, Miss Latino America etc. Perhaps one day it will not be important to point out that the new pageant winner is a woman of color. If a white person had won, the media would not indicate the race, by saying that the Miss Universe is white. We, as a human race, we have come a long way, but we've got a long way to go.

Continued success to our new Miss USA who represents not just black women but all women of North America.
