I would like to believe that I'm a student & teacher of life. At the beginning of 2007, I relocated from NYC to Charlotte, NC. I've written 4 books of poetry and have just completed my 1st novel. I would like to believe that my life experience may be able to educate others by seeing the world thru my eyes. There's always a point of view, & I'd like to add my flavor. I'm an extremely private person, however, I believe that I can speak for the voices that need to be heard.

It's hard to believe that its been 17 years since Ms. Thelma Houston recorded her last CD, as I continue to play her music, like her early first recordings on the Jimmy Webb, "Sunshower" CD, to the disco queen's-"Don't Leave Me This Way", years", then the Jimmy Jam-Terry Lewis (before Janet Jackson success), "Qualifying Heat, which has, You Used To Hold Me So Tight", and the last before the present is the Richard Perry-"Throw You Down" CD, that should have been a hit. Plus Ms. Houston's voice can be heard on more than a few of the deep house mixes. And I'm not mentioning the other CD's that came in between. All of them get fair play at my house.

Many of you may recall that this isn't the first time that Ms. Houston has taken a Teddy Pendergrass song and made it her own, as "Don't Let Me This Way", was the first and back in the day, many dance clubs would re-mix the two songs. Also to her credit, she has recorded with the best, two albums with Jerry Butler, a song with Dennis Edwards of the Temptations, Lean on Me with the Winans, and guest appearances on some "house music." And even background vocals with Patti Labelle. Now you know if you are singing with Ms. Patti, you can sing.

Now back to the present, if you are in the mood for some great singing and timeless music, make this part of your Thelma Houston collection. I only wish that she had done Sylvester's, "You Make Me Feel", the gospel intro for another 10 minutes as she was ready to have church!

A lot of performers as they get older, the voice may change, the voice may not be what it once was, however, some of the divas appear to get better with age, of which Ms. Houston is one. To prove my case, is her latest CD release titled, "A Woman's Touch." But the correct title should have been, "The Touch of Ms. Thelma Houston."

"A Woman's Touch", is a remake of some of Thelma's favorite male singer's recordings. The first song, opens with Teddy Pendergrass/Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, "Wake Up Everybody, the second cut, is the Luther Vandross, "Never Too Much", which is one of my favorites and unfortunately may not get any radio play, but it should. The other cuts are just as magical, from Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Stings, Sylvester, even the Glen Campbell classic, "By The Time I Get To Phoenix". It's a must have CD. Especially if you can appreciate the lyrics and the soulful power of Ms. Houston's blessed voice.
