I would like to believe that I'm a student & teacher of life. At the beginning of 2007, I relocated from NYC to Charlotte, NC. I've written 4 books of poetry and have just completed my 1st novel. I would like to believe that my life experience may be able to educate others by seeing the world thru my eyes. There's always a point of view, & I'd like to add my flavor. I'm an extremely private person, however, I believe that I can speak for the voices that need to be heard.

| John: Hi Baron, this is John Frazier from GBMNews.
Baron: Hi. (sounds friendly, easy to talk to) John: How are you? Baron: Fine. John: Do you have a moment to chat? Baron: Yes. John: So you are a singer right? Baron: Yes, I'm a singer, vocalist and lyricist ?
John: And you are going to be interviewed by Eric Jones on… Baron: On May 9th. John: What type of music do you sing? Baron: The album that's coming out now is called "Celebrity", it's a mixture of rhythms, spoken-word, rap, hip-hop, rock and electronica, this is the sound of the album. Something new. John: What is your target, as for your fans, what audience are you going for? Baron: (laughs) I would like to say the world, (laughs, again) but people who like music because it has 80's - 90's influences, its has a nostalgic feel, and for the young kids who like to go to the clubs, like to party. John: Wow, that sounds interesting! Baron: Yeah. (laughs) John: Do you have a website? Baron: www.artistbaron.com John: (I asked him to spell it, just to make sure of the website address.) Are you from NYC? Baron: I'm from New Jersey, Newark and Irvington. I live in Brooklyn now.
John: How long have you been entertaining? Baron: Well I'm been since 2000 - 2001. I started out with spoken word and poetry. Then I started to take it seriously. John: But you are singing now. Did you know that you could sing before the spoken word? Baron: (Laugh) Well, yeah I knew I could but I was nervous about it. So, I didn't, until this project, I decided to do some new things so I decided to go back to singing. John: Do you feel more comfortable with the spoken word or with the singing? Baron: Well the spoken word since I've been doing it for so long, but I'm getting more comfortable with the performing, singing, hip hop, raping. John: Do you dance? Baron: I know how to dance. (both of us screamed with laughter) I'm not trained. John: Looking at your photo on your website, you look like a dancer (laughing). Baron: I wish. I'm not trained, trained at all. John: Are you gay? Baron: I don't know (laughing) I don't recall right now. (the both of us laughed)
John: Well just in case someone wonders, we can say that you are Baron: At one point in my career I might have said yes, but my thought around it has changed, I think that sexuality is so individual that I wouldn't want to be boxed in by giving it a label. John: I love that answer. Nice answer. This way you can have the girls and guys screaming for you. (We continued to laugh) Baron: It may or may not be that way, I wouldn't have to feel uncomfortable if I'm not within a certain title. John: How old are you? Baron: 29. John: You look younger, I thought 20, 21. Baron: Thank you. John: Not that 29 is old because its not. Baron: But older. (laugh) John: Are you a spiritual person? Baron: Yes. John: Born again or any one type of religion? Baron: No.
John: What's your process before you perform, go on stage? Baron: What I've been doing lately is take some time alone, away from the crowd, the people and get clear on what I want to do that night. It's weird but seconds before I go on stage, everything goes blank, all my thoughts go blank but once I'm on stage everything comes back and it's a whole new energy. John: Do you feel like you are a different personality on stage? Like Beyonce and… (laugh, trying to remember the name) Baron: Sasha (laugh) oh, yeah, oh yeah. (agreeing that he's a different person on stage.) There's a stage Baron, a cast of characters and then there's the Baron off stage. John: If you had a crystal ball where would you like to see yourself in 5 years? Baron: Traveling the world. John: Entertaining? Baron: Yes John: On your website is your music on there? Baron: It's under construction. My music can be heard on "my space." John: I will check it out. I think that we need a new type of music, since everyone wants to sound alike. Baron: Going into the project, I produced a lot of the music, as well. John: Is it like Floetry? Baron: Yeah, but a little more edgy. John: Nona Hendryx or Grace Jones? (laughing)
Baron: Rock, edgy, hard, more energy, a little bit of Grace Jones, 90's, Prince, that type of sound, other songs I don't know where I got the inspiration from. John: Yeah, well inspiration doesn't have to sound like anyone else, you could just wake up and there it is. You have your own sound. Baron: Like some songs from the beginning to the end, turned out to be a totally different song. Making music, I will never do it again, (laugh, since its extra work for the artist) fine-tuning the music, the experience was great. John: Do you have background, vocals? Baron: Yes. John: Male and female. Baron: Yes, male and female. John: How do you dress on stage? Baron: Depends, sometimes tie and shirt, some jeans, a T-shirt, it depends. John: The reason I asked is because you said that there's a stage Baron and an off stage Baron. Like the way Prince dresses I'm sure is different during his down time, whereas on stage that's a different Prince. Baron: Yeah, I'm still trying to figure it out, but I like to wear my pants fitted. (laugh) John: Show your body, give us body, give us body! (Both of us laughed again) Like with Patti when she was with Labelle they had the out of space clothes, really funky, which got the attention of the public but then after they had to prove that they could sing, have talent. Baron: Now everyone needs a stylist. John: But that's always been the case, like The Supremes, the Temptations had stylist, Tina Turner with Ike had a style, gave her the wild tiger look. Once they got the attention of the public, then they could show what they were made of.
Baron: Yeah, you have to have your own style. And blog. Even independent artist need stylist. On stage you can dress the way you want to dress. It's fun, I'm having fun with it. I have my own style. John: Are you involved? Baron: No. John: So you are single. Baron: Single. John: So you are dating? Baron: I go on dates. (laugh) John: (I laughed) Do you sleep in the nude? Baron: Yeah. (laugh) John: How did I know that? (laugh) I think that people who create like the freedom of not wearing clothes. Do you cook? Baron: I don't cook. John: When you are not writing music, lyrics or word, what other artistic talents to you have? Baron: Photography, graphic design, sometimes when I'm not in the studio working. John: What would your fans be surprise to learn about you? Baron: That I'm really shy. Introverted, on stage extroverted. John: How many songs will you have on your CD? Baron: About 14.
John: Are you going to re-mix, like a lot of the artist are doing? Where the next CD is a CD of remixes. Baron: I have some people who are ready to do the mixing. John: The on-line listening party? How would one get information about this? Baron: Sign up on my e-mail list and on the 15th I will send the link for the listening party. My e-mail addresses are: John: How many siblings in your family? Baron: 3 brothers and 1 sister. I'm the second oldest. John: Do you feel this is why you became a performer? Since they were five of you? Baron: No, because I was raised by my grandmother. I spend time with my siblings during the summers. If you had told me when I was in high school, that I would be here today, I wouldn't have believed them. John: What high school did you go to? Baron: University High in Jersey. John: I believe Eric will record the radio show for his radio listeners. Baron: Sounds a little scary but exciting. John: You will be fine. Do you sing tenor or baritone? Baron: Baritone.
John: Are you afraid of being the kind of celebrity where everyone is in your face, taking pictures, the media? Baron: A part of me is ready for it and looking forward to it. I was part of "I Am Gay" campaign, it would be nice for young kids to have someone to look up to. John: Interesting, since earlier you said that you are not gay? (laughing) Baron: (laughing) I didn't say that I'm gay, I said that I was part of the campaign. John: Who are your favorite entertainers? Two male, two female? Baron: Female, Janet and Missy Elliott, male Luther and Prince. I learned to appreciate Luther when I got a little older. Luther's voice was such an instrument. Prince is genius. John: Well thank you Baron for taking time out to speak with me. Baron: And thank you.

Dear Readers, I have a feeling that we are going to witness the genius of Baron, who let it slip that on one of his songs he may sample/re-mix a 80's rock song on his new, soon to be released CD, "Celebrity." At first glance, his photos reminded me of a "Kanye West.", just more sexier, better looking and he's more humble. The combination of his musically styles, will probably have the uniqueness of those who came before him and yet totally new, since this is his vision and has not been done.
This is his second CD, the first is titled, "Troubled Man", which is an in your face kind of material. Whereas "Celebrity" is a celebration of life, its about surviving life and living life. "Trouble Man" can still be purchased on "CD Baby" and "I-tunes".
Baron may take part in some of the gay celebration through-out the United States, depending on his schedule. He believes that everyone, gay or bi or straight has the right to be true to themselves.
I, on a personal, note, would like to wish this young talented brother continued success, and to not forget me when he gets his first grammy.
