With Black American Senator, Edward Brooke In Her Memoirs

By Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

Ms. Barbara Walters is telling it all in her new memoir, "Audition", which tells the story of her life, professionally and personally. On the Oprah Winfrey Show, scheduled to air this coming Tuesday, May 6th, Ms. Walters tells of an affair that lasted a few years with the first Black American moderate Republican from Massachusetts, who took office in the senate in 1967. His name is Edward Brooke. Both Walters and Edwards knew that if it came out that they were dating; it would have ruined both careers.

After the affair, Senator Brooks divorced and remarried. As exciting as Ms. Walters' career has been, the media finds it interesting that she would date a black man more than if she would date a married man. Oprah asked Ms. Walters if she were in love. Barbara answered with, that she was infatuated. Then she continues with, "I was certainly involved," "He was exciting" "He was brilliant."

We are a nation that still has race problems and its understandable why Ms. Walters and Senator Brooke, decided to keep this on the down low. There are some who are questioning why Ms. Walters would tell all now, as I think if its your life story, why not tell it from your own point of view.

I'm sure that this will be on the best sellers list for months, maybe years to come. Looking at photos of Senator Brooke, he's a very light skinned Afro American, not that it matters, but I can't help but wonder if she would have dated him if he were a dark skinned black man. There have been times in history that our light skinned brothers and sisters have been given the honorary white pass, meaning that it was not discussed and forgotten that they were black. Especially if his or her world was in a totally white world.

In 2001, Senator Brooke had mild chest symptoms that he dismissed, only to have the symptoms reappear. It was soon discovered that he had breast cancer, of which he had to undergone a dual modified radical mastectomy. Few men get breast cancer but the Senator was able to put a face on it, as he advocated awareness.
