I can remember Raphael when he was with the group, Tony! Toni! Tone! There was something different about him. Like when many think of the Supremes, how Ms. Ross stood out or when Beyonce Knowles was with Destiny's Child. Sometimes there's a little extra light that shines through.

Then when Raphael appeared with the group, Lucy Pearl, at this time, it was already known that he could sing, dance and write lyrics and music, still he was able to bring something fresh and new with a little of the sound of yesterday. The unique thing about Raphael is that his look always changes and he doesn't give a damn if you like his look or not. From the very beginning it appears that he's been comfortable with himself.

Raphael's latest project is a throwback to the 60's, the first single, "Love That Girl", sounds like a song that The Temptations could have recorded with Eddie Kendricks singing the lead but also it reminds one of Mr. Curtis Mayfield as well. His appearance on the Jay Leno-Tonight's Show, was excellent as he proudly wore a yellow suit. Raphael, the kid named Charlie Ray Wiggins, born in Oakland, California is now an acclaimed music artist and gifted talent. He's also a major force behind neo-soul music.

According to his bio: He is a standard bearer for what folks call 'old school' music, a contemporary artist continuing a time-honored tradition that goes back to the '60s and '70s. From his early days as a member of the groundbreaking '80s group Tony! Toni! Toné! through his work as an award-winning producer of such artists as Joss Stone, The Roots, Snoop Dogg, John Legend among many others and his own solo albums, the multi-talented Raphael Saadiq has kept the faith. "Every record I've ever made has had those influences...The Temptations, Al Green, The Four Tops and so on," Raphael explains from the L.A. studio where he recorded his latest illustrious work. This album is the culmination of a life time of experiences informed by the music i grew up on." I can relate, I grew up listening to the same sounds myself.

Raphael's new CD, " The Way I See It", is in the stores now. If you want some timeless music, check this out.
