I would like to believe that I'm a student & teacher of life. At the beginning of 2007, I relocated from NYC to Charlotte, NC. I've written 4 books of poetry and have just completed my 1st novel. I would like to believe that my life experience may be able to educate others by seeing the world thru my eyes. There's always a point of view, & I'd like to add my flavor. I'm an extremely private person, however, I believe that I can speak for the voices that need to be heard.

One never knows what goes on behind closed doors. Many times you, being on the outside, looking in, you see what appears to be a perfect family. What appears perfect is not always the case, in as the childhood of Mo'Nique, the comic, the actress, the writer, the black, beautiful and full figured lady.

In October's issue of Essence, Mo'Nique appears on the cover looking fierce, the but the story, the article is not pretty. At the age of 7, she was sexually abused by her older brother.

When she told her parents, her brother said that she was lying and her mother replied, that if it happened once, it would happen again, and it would surface. Well it did happen again, a total of four times.

Mo'Nique young and yet mature couldn't understand how her parents didn't do anything to her brother. Her parents were suppose to protect her. Many years later, her older brother was arrested for sexually abusing another girl, and was sentenced to 15 years in jail.

Mo'Nique states that even now, the brother pretends that this molestation didn't happen. Damn on him. I wonder if she can now press charges or sue him, for that matter.

It's said many times, that the one's that makes us laugh, sometimes are covering up some of life's pain. I hope that Mo'Nique has had counseling or some kind of therapy as this is an experience that will be with her for the rest of her life.

As for her brother, I hope that he was able to experience what she and the other sexual abused victim went through when he was in the big house.

After telling her mother and father, at the tender age of 7, what else could she to do?

Mo'Nique used her own personal experience and pain in her forthcoming movie, "Push", which is about incest. It's a story that no one wants to talk about, but it happens more than we think. And its not only to our girls, but it happens to our boys as well.
