If you are looking for that perfect last minute stocking stuffer, then don't wait any longer to go out and get The Ultimate Gift. The Ultimate Gift is a collection of Holiday songs performed by Rahsaan Patterson in a more subdued, funky style than we are used to from him.

Rahsaan Patterson has crafted most of the songs on this compilation alongside Jamey Jaz. Rahsaan has always been quite instrumental in the writing of the songs on his CD's as well as for artists like: Brandy, Ledisi, Jonathan Butler, and Lalah Hathaway.

 

 
The forward progression and evolution of Rahsaan Patterson is quite evident on this his fifth release. The Ultimate Gift displays more of Rahsaan's musical abilities with the piano while giving his usual hint of strings to round out and support his unique voice. In addition to the original tracks, Rahsaan has included the traditional "Little Drummer Boy," Stevie Wonders's "What Christmas Means To Me," and the Paul McCartney classic "Wonderful Christmastime."

Though, I've never been a fan of the McCartney hit, Rahsaan Patterson funks it out as only he can. I urge you all to check out the track "Peace and Joy." Mr. Patterson gives new meaning to the phrase "Fa-La-La-La-La." There is so much creative genius in Rahsaan Patterson that can not be described in just one review or CD. So check out this and other releases from this artist and experience the complexity of Rahsaan Patterson.
