Emmy-Award winning musician and noted philanthropist Peter Buffett, has teamed up with R&B/Hip Hop sensation and Grammy Nominee, Akon in preparation of a live cultural event and concert whixh was held in the United Nation's General Assembly Hall on March 25th. Peter and Akon will debut the resulting track, "Blood Into Gold," to commemorate the 2009 International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade. The download proceeds from the single will all go to the education and elimination of human trafficking worldwide.

The Culture Project, a non-profit organization, asked Peter Buffett to write the song specifically for this star-studded commemoration. Contributing his voice and production knowledge to "Blood Into Gold," Akon shares the evening with many legendary performers from all over the globe including (as Music Director) the talented and seasoned music veteran, Nile Rodgers.

Other performers scheduled to appear are: Audrey Babcock (Mezzo-Soprano), Angela Brown (Soprano), The Blind Boys of Alabama, Danny Glover, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Emeline Michel, The Marley Brothers, CCH Pounder, Stephanie Benson, Phylicia Rashad, and more. Nelson Mandela and Muhammad Ali's appearance will be broadcasted via their pre-taped testimonials.

"Breaking the Silence, Beating the Drum," is the theme for which all of the evening's events are surrounded. The theme this year was chosen because of the traditional use of the drum throughout the world. The drum reminds us of the negative historical results and consequences of transatlantic slave trade, followed by racism and prejudice.

Envisioning the triumph of the human spirit over slavery and human trafficking was enough of a purpose to motivate The Culture Project to produce the concert, and the United Nations is the right venue to host the event. At this point we are in need of a global response to end such inhumane practices against our fellow human beings.
