NO Snitching Rule
We as an African American people have so many unwritten codes of ethics. Snitching is one of them. Often, I wonder when this is appropriate, IF ever. We profess to be a spiritual people, with standards and morals. How moral and ethical is to snitch or not to snitch? I do realize we live in contradictory society, thus our community is contradictory and hypocritical. The rapper Camron once stated to Anderson Cooper on “60 minutes” he would not called the police to report a serial killer if one lived next door to him.
I wonder would he snitch if that was his child living next door to one or his child living next door to a child predator. I thought to myself how insane and ignorant and unreasonable. People need to think before they speak. Our community needs to realize that giving up criminal information does benefit our community. I know it can be difficult considering we have family and friends that commit crimes. And I do understand the harsh relations Black Americans have with the police. I can understand how the need for revenge arises. But we must do the right thing when possible. And that is to report.
Of course you might lose friends or even family. But if we are to live in a better society, black society at that we must do what we know is right. We are so pro-criminal when our people do something, until it hits home. Then we want to bring the house down. If we want our community to be safe we should report criminal activities. We should not live in fear and prosecution even from out own.
