Tavis Smiley wrote his point of view and submitted it in book form.  From what I saw, the small excerpt.  His thoughts were around community involvement, community empowerment and economic achievement.

However, I applaud Tavis and his views; he’s one of the brightest black males of this time.   Here is my list, in no particular order.

  1. Education -  extremely important, it divides the have and the have nots
  2. Love of self – You self before you can love others.
  3. Know Black History – We have to know where we have been before we can appreciate where we are.
  4. Clear Understanding of money – The ideas we were taught about money were wrong, our people didn’t know any better back then. We have to know what money is, how it works and what it can do for us.
  5. A Strategy – We must have a game plan or a goal. A road map for our lives
  6. A Vision – Without a vision, we will only go in circles. You see and then visualize where you want to go in life.
  7. Respect – Respect for yourself and other’s particularly our own. A house divided can not stand.
  8. Home Ownership – Buy not rent, if you can or when you can do better (buy)

These are just a few things that I came up with.  But try to come up with your list and see what you can think of for improvements, for our community.
