From city to city blacks seem to be dispersing from the city
and moving to the closet suburbs or farther.
Washington, D.C. is seeing the effects of this, as well as other
cities. In 2000, the D.C. metropolitan area had 60 percent of its residents
being African American. By 2006 the
African American population went to 55 percent. According to Robert E. Lang,
Dir. Of Metropolitan Institute at Virginia Tech says that there will be no
clear majority by 2020 in major cities across America.
D.C. area is becoming unaffordable to African Americans,
because of gentrification. So now,
African Americans are now moving towards the edges of the city for
affordability. Where does this put us as
African Americans? Only time will tell.
