Hundred of high school students in the Toledo Public School system was not able to walk with there class this year June 2007. Despite they all met the requirements with grade point Averages ranging from 2.5 and higher some even had 4.0 and higher (G.P.A.’s) Grade Point Averages. Many were on the Dens and principles list not to mention many had honors and Scholarships to various colleges.

But what happen or should I ask what stopped them from graduating and walking with their class mates. They pass the (OGT) Ohio Graduate Test. But many of them failed or mist the Ohio Proficiency Test by lest than one point or subject.

I speak to you on an Educators view. I strongly feel all those students should have graduated and walked with there classmates. The state of Ohio needs to better teach and prepare our students for the test by teaching and making the proficiency test a part of the everyday curriculum. The curriculum that is used today is no where on the subject area that is being taught in the Ohio schools today.

The Ohio Proficiency test should be given and used as a tool to see where and what level is our kids scoring or and if they meet the guidelines and standard. But not to be used as a part of there grade or grading system to determines if they will pass or graduate. If the student earn and met all the course requirements he/she should be allowed to walk with their class.

Have the system failed our children and students, When will the parents and the community come together and protest the (OPT) not to get ride of it but to revise it and stop it from being a factor on a students performance for passing and/or graduating.

This has happen to hundred of our high school young adults. Tearing down the dreams of every senior. Taken away their hopes and dreams. What happen to the Theme: NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND Not only have they been left behind. The doors have been reopened allow more of our children to drop out of school. Yes the system have destroyed there willingness, self-esteem not to mention if I work hard enough I can go to college and become somebody.
As I always said A Dream without a vision is like a candle with out a wick.

Speak up, speak out the youth is our future for tomorrow let’s not let them down anymore than we have already done.
