A 44-year-old unregistered traditional surgeon was arrested for illegally circumcising three underage boys in Ngqeleni, the Eastern Cape health department said on Thursday.

Spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said an informant from the community alerted the department to the man's illegal practices and he was arrested on Wednesday.

Kupelo said this arrest brought to seven the number of illegal traditional surgeons arrested this week.

Police were still searching for two other unregistered traditional surgeons.

One surgeon had allegedly illegally circumcised 27 boys.

Another, from Libode, allegedly circumcised 24 underage boys last week.

Kupelo says this illegal surgeon's nickname among initiates was Ziyamqwenga, which meant "we are killing them (the boys)". - Sapa
