FIRE ISLAND BLACK OUT BECOMES TWO-DAY EVENT TO COMMEMORATE FIFTH ANNIVERSARY
Saturday, August 11, 2007 marks the date when Fire Island Black Out (FIBO) returns to commemorate its 5th Anniversary. This landmark two-day beach party, geared towards people of color, brings together men and women of various ages, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, for a day of fun and networking at the beach.
The mantra for this year’s FIBO event is ‘Be Yourself,’ which speaks directly to the essence of FIBO’s clientele: upwardly mobile, educated professionals of both genders who know what a good time is and how to have one. During the day at the beach, FIBO revelers enjoy picnicking, volleyball, touch football, strolling the pristine coastline, and swimming in the cool, crystal clear waters.
When the sun goes down, the beach heats up when FIBO’s official after party begins. The “FIBO Bump” will keep beachgoers moving until 2 a.m. to the sounds of some of New York’s best DJs. In 2006, well over 1,500 people celebrated the unofficial end of summer at Fire Island with FIBO. Everyone received a gift bag stuffed with various discount vouchers, cologne or perfume and the official FIBO Bump CD.
One lucky guest was the winner of a raffle for a brand-new iPod. The popularity of this event continues to grow. Fire Island Black Out was featured in a 2006 issue of HX magazine as an unofficial hot stop on the Black party circuit. HX says, “FIBO can have an official blackout anywhere they want if they promise to bring all those ‘hotties’ with them!”
FIBO plans to do just that. In response to feedback from 2006 attendees and in an effort to improve guest experience, FIBO is in negotiation to offer housing rentals and a Sunday morning brunch for guests who wish to stay after the last ferry has left the dock. “Our continued growth and success is attributed to our unyielding dedication to our mission: encouraging same gender loving men and women of all colors, to come together at Cherry Grove, Fire Island for a day in the sun,” says John Goodman, CEO of Fire Island Black Out, LLC.
