American Airlines, one of the world's largest airlines, has written Congress a letter endorsing the Employee Nondiscrimination Act, according to a press release.
The letter of support was signed by Denise Lynn, American's vice president for diversity and leadership strategies, Michael Wascom, American's managing director of international and governmental affairs, and Betty Young, American's national sales and marketing manager for the gay community.

"(We are) proud to express our strong support of federal workplace non-discrimination legislation that would extend basic job protections to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans. We are proud to have been the first major airline to implement same-sex domestic partner benefits, first to implement both sexual orientation and gender identity in our workplace non-discrimination policies, and first to have a recognized LGBT employee resource group - GLEAM," the press release said.
"Our endorsement of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) is consistent with our longstanding Statement of Equal Opportunity … The principles fostered by ENDA are consistent with our corporate principles in treating all employees with fairness and respect. On behalf of our more than 80,000 employees, we appreciate your consideration and encourage Congress to enact this important legislation."

Levi's joining to defeat Calif. gay marriage ban will co-chair initiative with PG&E to defeat Prop. 8

Levi Strauss & Co. is putting its famous pockets behind defeating a ballot initiative that would outlaw same-sex marriage in California. The San Francisco-based jeans maker said Thursday it will co-chair with Pacific Gas & Electric a group trying to drum up opposition to Proposition 8 in the business community.
Chief Executive Officer John Anderson said the move is consistent with Levi's long history of supporting civil rights causes. The company ended racial segregation of its California factories in the 1940s and was the first Fortune 500 company to offer health benefits to the domestic partners of its unmarried employees. In July, PG&E donated $250,000 to the campaign to defeat the gay marriage ban and announced it hoped to persuade other corporations to do the same. Because PG&E is a public utility, though, taking a controversial political stand is less risky for the company than it might be for businesses with greater competition.

Levi Strauss has pledged $25,000 to Equality for All, the coalition leading the No on 8 campaign, says company spokesman E.J. Bernacki. Robert Haas, the company's chairman emeritus, and his wife have given $100,000, Bernacki said. Two labor unions, the California Council of Service Employees and the California Teachers Association, each have given $250,000. Telecommunications company AT&T has given $25,000. The referendum seeks to amend the state constitution to overturn the May state Supreme Court decision that legalized same-sex marriage here.

About 100 people have attended a ceremony at the University of Wyoming dedicating a memorial bench in honor of a gay student who was murdered nearly 10 years ago.
Matthew Shepard was found brutally beaten and tied to a fence outside Laramie, Wyo., on Oct. 12, 1998. The two men who killed him are serving life sentences in prison. The crime triggered nationwide sympathy and revulsion and brought a re-examination of attitudes toward gays.
Shepard's parents established a foundation to fight hate and promote diversity and both spoke at the short ceremony on Saturday. Judy Shepard says the nation has grown a lot in the last 10 years in accepting the gay community.

Over the past month there have been at least 5 attacks on gay men in the Baltimore/Washington area. This has Gays in both cities on edge. Both communities say they are scared and hoping for better.
| Tony Randolph Hunter, a resident of Clinton, Md., died Sept. 17, 10 days after he was attacked and beaten by four unidentified males at 8th and N Streets, N.W., Hunter, 37, and a friend were headed to the Be Bar, a gay bar less than two blocks away. |
|
Police say they are close to catching the assailants of this attack.
According to the Washington Blade, Alexander Padro, Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner said two people familiar with the investigation told him police were in the process of obtaining a warrant for the arrest of one suspect that was identified by an informant.
Padro said he was told that the suspect confessed to killing Hunter, but the suspect insisted he acted in self-defense after Hunter made advances toward him.
"I'm very concerned that this guy is trying to use the gay-panic defense," Padro said. "It's ridiculous, and I hope the police don't fall for that kind of nonsense."
When questioned about the situation, police spokesperson Tracy Hughes issued a brief statement and declined further comment.
"No warrant has been issued," she said. "However, there is a person of interest in the case. Detectives are continuing to follow up on several leads."

Sexy and smart this force of nature's name is Abdur-Rahim Briggs. He wants to personally thank you for accepting the challenge and volunteering your time, talent and passion in the awareness of HIV/AIDS within the African-American community. He also wants to take a moment to share with you his personal journey for this cause……….
| I am no stranger when it comes to community service. |
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA where I was a member and a volunteer for the Watts/Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club. My role model during that time was the late Roy W. Roberts, III who taught me the value of community service. I am a graduate of California State University at Bakersfield with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. I relocated to Washington, DC to pursue both professional opportunities and my true passion, community service. I currently serve as Vice-President of Programs for the Greater Washington DC ARMA Chapter.
My journey began in the summer of 1997, my identical twin brother Mark L. Briggs, disclosed to me that he had tested positive with the HIV virus. I was devastated. Two years later, as infection rates continued to soar among African-Americans; I channeled my hurt and pain into positive energy and began to wage a war against the HIV virus. My desire and determination to fight back led to the idea of brothers and sister coming together and wearing all white as a symbol of unity to raise awareness and funds to help fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic within the African-American community.
The "White Party" was born in 1999 and began as a "backyard barbeque". It started with 151 supporters in my backyard on Grant Place in Washington, DC. The following year, the event quickly outgrew the backyard attracting 251 people. In 2001, 355 people crowded into K.C. Ortiz's home on Buchanan Street N.W. outgrowing that space in its first year. For all three years, proceeds from the fundraisers were donated to Us Helping Us, Inc., an organization that provides HIV/AIDS services to the African-American GLBT community.

(AIDS Walk Edition Part I)
By Justin Smith
Hello Everyone,
I know it's been a long time since I've last have my last entry. I've been dealing with a lot on my plate with school, relationship, various community projects etc. One of my many callings is to try to educate people about HIV/AIDS but in my own way. So after I've been on HIV meds for a couple of months the doctor called me back to make sure I'm taking my meds like I'm suppose to.
| After a brief discussion with my doctor he said I wasn't taking my meds like I suppose to. So here is what was said. I can NOT have any Grapefruit Juice and it sucks. I really like it but I can't have it because of my meds. You also have to remember to try to take your meds around the same time every day. |
| I try to take my meds at lunch time everyday or at least at dinner. ALWAYS TAKE THE MEDS WITH FOOD. If you don't take your meds with food you can have stomach aches, head aches, and other aches. Also, do NOT skip taking your meds at all. I missed taking my meds once and it set my body back. I had to deal with the same symptoms that my body had when I first started my meds. It was horrible. Again I warn people that is not a walk in the park. | |
|
So I also have some good news. There have been some organizations and schools that have contacted me to help spread the word on HIV/AIDS amongst the African American and gay communities. It's been a good thing. BUT I still ask that we all spread the word of this journal hopefully it will save lives. I've decided to do something that I've never done before I've decided to do The AIDS Walk in Washington DC. This will be my first but certainly will not be my last I've decided that I would do the AIDS Walk. This is something that will help in bringing closure to the many people that have touched my life and have passed away from HIV/AIDS. So I'm pleading to you the public to help me raise money for the HIV/AIDS organization Whitman Walker Clinic. Please help us stop this disease and help those living with it. Thank you

Rush Limbaugh calls Barack Obama, "the little black man-child"

On his August 20th broadcast, Rush Limbaugh reacted to the democratic response to negative Senator John McCain ads by sarcastically stating, "You can't criticize the little black man-child…its not fair. He's such a victim."
| Limbaugh is no stranger to making racially remarks. He had earlier referred to Senator Barack Obama as "Barack the magic negro" and a "halfrican American," a term most bi-racial people would find offensive.
Limbaugh had previously called Obama stupid and said Obama "Probably didn't get out of Harvard without affirmative action." Limbaugh, a Southeast Missouri State University dropout, probably doesn't understand that Obama graduated among the top of his class and was the President of the prestigious Harvard Law Review. Obama proved that he had the intellect to move forward at Harvard and not gain but earn his college degree. Also, Obama did not put his race on his Harvard application.
|
Limbaugh has gone too far. I believe in freedom of speech, but not freedom to be ignorant. This is a head-shaker. Imus gets canned for calling some college women basketball players "nappy-headed hos" and yet Rush Limbaugh plays "Barack The Magic Negro" on his show and he is still on the air?

Gov. Bobby Jindal will not reissue a ban on discriminating against LGBT people in the workplace

Jindal, who once was talked up as being John McCain's potential running mate is now being scrutinized for his insensitivity towards the gay community.
| "We are not going to renew it and that shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody," Jindal said about the executive order signed by then-Gov. Kathleen Blanco in December 2004.
The order, which some church groups and Jindal have criticized over the years, is set to expire Friday. |
|
| Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) |
"The reason for allowing the order to lapse is that I don't think it is necessary to create additional special categories or special rights," Jindal said. State and federal law already prohibits discrimination, he said.
"We are firmly and strongly committed to fair treatment of all of our people and certainly don't condone discrimination in any form," Jindal said in an interview Wednesday.
Jindal's decision to not sign the ban on discrimination means "it is perfectly legal to fire anyone based on their sexual orientation even if they are a perfect employee," said Randy Evans, a New Orleans lawyer who is co-political director of Forum for Equality, a New Orleans-based political action committee for the lesbian and gay community in Louisiana.
Jindal is not an advocate of any gay rights whatsoever. He believes that the right given to gays and lesbians are considered special rights and he will not let them pass as long as he is Governor. If Jindal was chosen as McCain's running mate, and McCain wins the presidency we will all be in gay hell.

Brazil's Congress has rejected a pending adoption law that would allow gay adoption.
The Chamber of Deputies gave stated that since Brazil doesn't recognize gay marriage or same-sex unions it was withdrawn because federal law doesn't recognize same-sex civil unions.
| The southernmost Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul currently allows same-sex civil unions, while the rest of the country debates a law that would allow same-sex civil unions throughout the nation. |
Southern Rio Grande do Sul state has permitted same-sex civil unions since 2004, and a Sao Paulo state court allowed a gay male couple to adopt a 5-year-old girl in late 2006. Although lesbian couples have been granted adoption rights twice in the past, the case marked the first time two men were granted permission to adopt together
A proposal granting same-sex couples the same rights as married heterosexuals has stalled in Brazil's Congress for more than 10 years, prompting some states to take their own actions.

Two members of a Baltimore, Maryland gang have been charged with killing another one of its gang members whom they believed was gay.
Steven Hollis and Juan Flythe were charged on the 14th of August with first-degree murder following the May death of Steven Parrish, 18, of Randallstown. Authorities said Hollis and Flythe are members of the Bloods gang.
Hollis 18, and Flythe 17, found text messages on Parrish's cell phone that led them to believe that Parrish was gay. Documentation says that the defendants were afraid that Parrish would make the gang portrayed as weak.
Parrish's body was later found by Deidre Slowe, a local Baltimorean
Slowe found the body of the teenager behind her Gwynn Oak home. She said the community she lives is no stranger to gang violence but she says she has never seen it like this.
"I couldn't see his face," Slowe stated, recalling the indelible image, which prompted her to call 911, "I could see his stomach and that he had on a red tee-shirt... a red bandana around his wrist.
An autopsy reportedly showed that Parrish died as a result of blunt-force and stabbing injuries. He also suffered a stab wound to the chest and 50 superficial cuts then the assailants stomped on his neck and at the end they laid a red bandana over his face and left him to die.
Local paper, the Baltimore Sun reported that on the day before Parris's death, several gang members met at Parrish's house, where they conferred about finding "gay" text messages on Parrish's phone.
The Sun reported police wrote in charging documents that as a result of the meeting, gang members "decided that Steven Parrish 'had to go.' There was no date or time discussed for the killing, but it was made very clear to all those present that Parrish was going to be killed."

Back in April of 2008 British actor and comedian Stephen K Amos illustrated why homophobia still exists in the black communities of Great Britain, Jamaica and other nations.
Amos literally brings to light the stereotypes that people have when it comes to the Gays and Lesbians.
He first starts out by making a group of young men stand in the street for money, so that he can talk to random people. Amos asked a simple question to the random people about young men. The question was "Which one of these men is gay?"
Amos also takes his documentary to audiences of a comedy circuit to prove that people cannot tell if an average man is gay just by the way he looks and talks. He also comes out to the people in audience.
SEE THEIR REACTIONS AND RESPONSES HERE:
In Kingston Jamaica Amos sees and talks to several people who are living in fear that they will be murdered, beaten, or arrested for being gay. Amos also researches the lyrics of songs that influence people to hate and even behavior violently towards Gays and Lesbians.
Hateful Lyrics Clip
Briefly, Amos goes in to a church and asked questions to religious leaders about homosexuality and children.
Homosexuality and Children Clip
Amos also talks to a man named "Stephen" who feels that men must go to places that could endanger their lives because they are looking for sexual gratification and acceptance any where they can.

COMMENTARY
| This documentary truly tells us as Black LGBT people that it is hard all around the world for our brothers and sister. We must come together on issues like gay marriage, job discrimination, gay adoption, etc. We must stop fighting each other on insignificant issues while people are dying just for saying "I'm Gay" or "I'm Lesbian".
I slam down the gauntlet and challenge all of you to attend one event that benefits the LGBT community. When I say benefit I mean something that doesn't require a drink in your hand. Go to a Town Hall Meeting, Lobby, or hell just write a damn letter. Try something new. |

Paris Hilton distanced herself from John McCain's campaign commercial likening Barack Obama to the heiress and Britney Spears.
"Miss Hilton was neither asked, nor did she give permission, for the use of her likeness in the ad, and has no further comment," her rep said in a statement.
In the campaign ad from the Republican presidential hopeful, images of Spears, Hilton and Democratic challenger Obama appear on the screen as a voiceover says, "He's the biggest celebrity in the world. But is he ready to lead?"
Spears's rep declined to make a comment on the ad
Hilton then came back with her own campaign ad for Presidency and get this she actually knows what she is talking about.
CHECK IT OUT HERE
Then on The View Elizabeth Hasselbeck and Whoopi Goldberg have a debate on the same ad that Hilton responded to. Hasselbeck is an obvious conservative and she defends the ad by taking a punch at the Barack Obama's recent appearances on Magazine Covers and TV shows.
COMMENTARY:
| What a cheap shot. By showing that Obama is like a superstar does McCain hope to tear our Democratic Party apart? Please come on. Hilton, Spears and Obama have nothing to do with each other. One is a Hotel Heiress, one is a Pop Singer, and the other is a Democratic Presidential Nominee.
Obama has been scrutinized even on the day time talk show "The View" by co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck. I find her to be irritating by criticizing of the Obama campaign for making him into a celebrity. She is obvious nitpicking when it comes to wanting the label of celebrity to be put on Obama. She is just being a stupid conservative that wants to come to the defense of her white haired grandfather. Even if people want to believe that Obama is a rock star, so the f*** what? Who cares? 50 year old actor and comedian Bernie Mac, star of the Peabody Award winning show "The Bernie Mac Show" died Saturday."Actor/comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital," his publicist, Danica Smith, said in a statement from Los Angeles.
The family has asked for their privacy to be respected.
The actor has had some health issues recently and in the past. Mack suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body's organs, but had said the condition went into remission in 2005.
He recently was hospitalized and treated for pneumonia.
Recently, Mac's brand of comedy caught him flack when he was heckled during a surprise appearance at a July fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate and fellow Chicagoan Barack Obama.
Toward the end of a 10-minute standup routine, Mac joked about menopause, sexual infidelity and promiscuity, and used occasional crude language. The performance earned him a rebuke from Obama's campaign.
"Wherever I am, I have to play," he said in 2002. "I have to put on a good show."
Mac worked his way to Hollywood success from an impoverished upbringing on Chicago's South Side. He began doing standup as a child, and his film career started with a small role as a club doorman in the Damon Wayans comedy "Mo' Money" in 1992. In 1996, he appeared in the Spike Lee drama "Get on the Bus."

| As you see here in my journal entries I'm meeting with the Medication's Specialist and she is telling me the side effects, cost, and diet that I must now go by.
The costs of these medications are high. So high that I couldn't afford it if I got a job at 40K and was promoted in to job making 50K. The medications that I am on cost about $1500.00. I cannot eat Grapefruit or any antacid pills, like Tums, etc. My body is changing internally and I can feel it. |
|
| Getting used to the medication has been a big adjustment. Side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, tiredness, dizziness, vomiting, shacking, nightmares, are things that some people have to worry about when going on medications. | |
|
I was so scared meeting with the Medication’s Specialist but I know it was something that I must do. It was hard even though I’m laughing through virtually the whole thing.
|
SILENCE = DEATH | |
| I’m currently on Truvada, Reyatez and Norvir. These Drugs have some side effects. These are the drugs that I’m on. Please be aware that these are drugs that you have to take every single day.
All I can do now is wait to see what my body does next I have a medical appoint next month but I will probably post another message before that. I need for people to distribute this journal everywhere.

The Wendy Williams show had its first altercation, it was between the hostess Wendy Williams and Reality TV villain Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth.
The tiff started when the Reality star first stepped out onto the stage when she was displeased with Williams' introduction of her and would not be disrespected.
Tension started rising when Williams grabbed Omarosa's book cover and held it to the camera. Omarosa immediately snatched it back from Williams' grasp.
The two went back and forth with each other, insulting each other appearances.

After the exchange Williams had this to say about the Reality Show Diva, "Omarosa wished her career was my career," Williams told the AP. "Omarosa is a delusional, D-list, pathetic woman."
"I have no reason to invite Omarosa back to the show," said Williams. "That's done. She had her moment."
