What is Heterosexism?
- By Brett York
- Published 07/8/2007
It is the promotion by institutions of the inherent superiority of heterosexuality and the assumption that everyone is and must be heterosexual. Like racism, sexism, and other forms of prejudice and discrimination, heterosexism awards privilege to members of the group with more power (heterosexuals).
This is the first time I have heard this term, but growing up in the "Bible Belt" makes one see this point of view over and over! I grew up thinking something was wrong with me because I did not feel the same way as I thought everyone else in the world did. I did not know anyone who was gay. I thought gay people were only in movies. It made me feel very confused and that I was alone.
I always wished that I had someone who I could have shared my feelings with growing up. It would have been so much easier and less sad.
THE POWER OF LOVE

Being gay in some countries IS not allowed. A gay person is often treated as if he is not part of the community in which he comes from. No matter what heppends, life still goes on for people who see themselves as gay and cannot do anything about changing their sexual state.
Tim saw El's profile on a gay dating site and decied to email him. He was scared about emailing someone from his own country since a lot of guys there were not really gay but were there to decieve and scam. He gave it a try and in a few minutes, El also replied.
The two exchanged phone numbers and decided to start dating by use of the cell phone. For three months, they dated on the phone and sent pictures to one another since they lived far apart in the same country.
As time passed by, the two gentlemen decided to meet for the first time. El was to visit Tim but was very anxious as to what will happen. What if Tim was not really gay. He could organise a mob to beat him up. But he El needed love. Ofcourse he knew his society did not agree to it but he was determined to try gainst all odds to make his dream of finding someone come into reality.
Tim gave him the direction to come over. It was five hours drive beofre he got to where Tim was living. When El got there, Tim was at the Bus Station to welcome him. The two of them recognised each other and embraced as if old school boys being reunited.
They were to have an affair in secrete knowing what will happen to them if the society ever found out.
You cant stop love. it flows when it will flow. No matter what people say about the gay world, men both young and old will always find ways and means to meet.
That is the power of love
Am I Really An Uncle-Tom-Nigger?

"Waddup, fool?"
Yes, friends, that’s what this black fellow said to me as I was on my way into a building to cover a story. It amazed me how the English language is compounded with African American slang.
Now, I’m neither naive nor stupid, but I asked him, “Who is a fool?”
He looked at my ass like I was crazy! Be it me to relish the fact that I understand and speak the beautiful English language, I considered it to be one of the hardest languages to master, what with these words that sound the same:
1. Knew
2. New
1. No
2. Know
1. Their
2. They’re
3. There
Whew, this is why other Nationalities should receive way more kudos, because they can not only speak our language, but they master their language as well.
Back to the Post
So, he says to me, he says, “You. I said wassup?”
“Oh, you mean, wassup, brotha? Or wassup, sir?”
He laughed.
“Naw, I meant, wassup, fool?” he said.
“What makes me a fool?” I asked.
And he responded with, “It’s a finger of speech, dumb ass.” He even rolled his eyes after this sentence.
Suddenly, I wasn’t as mad. He obviously didn’t have an inkling of understanding the phrase he’d spoken to me, and he gave attitude to boot.
“Okay,” I said, with a smile. “When you pass that finger of speech to your kids, I’ll tell my children to say hello while your kids are serving them fries at McDonalds. Bye, fool.”
Was that so un-cool? Yes.
The guy screamed at me, while I was walking away, “You Uncle Tom, N***a!”
What makes me an Uncle Tom? Is it because I try to understand and speak the English language? Is it because I have rather nice diction and enunciation? Should I be considered less than black because I don’t use double negatives, walk around with my pants down to my ankles; go to jail, love rap, or scavenger hunt for pussy?
Well, should I? I never thought my own race would be so prejudiced against me.

You're Oil, Your Haters are Water
- By Trew Life

Family and friends can sometimes be very judgmental of the things you do. When it gets to the point where your family constantly discourages you, what do you do? We’ve heard the saying, “Blood is thicker than water,” time and time again, but is it true? In my experience, family will consider themselves water, and consider you oil. What happens when oil is put into water? It rises to the top. I suppose that’s how we must all think. It sucks knowing that lots of family members don’t believe in you or your dreams until you make it somewhere. Look at how many stars receive phone calls from uncles, cousins, and aunts once they become successful. These same people didn’t know where a phone was to call those stars up and say, “hey,” before they became stars.
Conclusion
If you have a dream of doing anything at all and your family tells you that it can’t be done, or they don’t support you; think of yourself as oil and think of them as water. Though they try and make you seem like the dirty impure mind and spirit, remember that you will rise to the top.
Who Loves You, Baby?
- By Trew Life

Who loves you, baby? Who supports your dreams, hopes, desires and goals? If you can’t answer this, you’re in trouble. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe that women (or men) need someone in their life to be secure, but truth of the matter is: when we have supporters, they help us cope.
Leave a comment stating who your supporters are and how they support you.
Clown Faces are... Scary
- By Trew Life

So why would a guy kiss someone who also has six tons of makeup piled on their face, and not laugh? Why would he take them seriously?
Women, and MEN, some of you really need to lay off the pounds and pounds of the stuff. Some of you pile it on so thick that it looks ridiculous. Clown faces on wanna-be Jessica Rabbit bodies.
Most of you are beautiful (by Hollywood and model standards) without all that stuff. I say most, because some people do need to wear some makeup, especially if they're in the entertainment business.
I know, I know, you say, "Trew, you don't know how it is looking pretty in the mourning time..." I meant to say morning time.
The answer is: yes-the-hell-I-do. I went to a performing arts high school and graduated to delve heavily into the music and acting world. And let me tell you: IMAGE IS EVERYTHING! I went through terrible years of bad acne problems. This means scaring, uneven skin tone, and irritation beyond belief.
Because I'm a man, society says I can't wear makeup, and if it was okay, I probably wouldn't like to wear it anyway. But when I had to do a commercial, or a poster for the play I'd be in, I had to put on the makeup, and let me tell you, it made my skin feel worse.
Try getting a mineral based makeup that works with your skin and doesn't seem like your face has been drawn on. Trust me, men like the natural a hell of a lot better.

Donald Goines Paints Love With A Pen
- By Trew Life
- Published 06/20/2007

There is a need for stories of love in America. There must be some type of hope for the future of romance. Okay, so let’s strip away the romance and stick with the love factor. I mean, you can have love without romance, right? And there are all types of love, deep love, crazy love, senseless love and obsessive love.

Donald Goines' book Black Girl Lost is a wonderful story of love. Most people associate it with the struggles of a young African American woman. Though the book does heavily touch on the struggles this girl goes through, it’s all about the love she has for her man. The things she goes through to share that love with him are astonishing. I’d recommend that everyone try and read this book. Check it out!
