G.U.I.L.T.Y. for stalking Ms. Tyra Banks

By Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

On April 30th, Brady Green was charged, found guilty of stalking the television/model diva, Ms. Tyra Banks.

The Associated Press said that Mr. Green, who arrived from Georgia, was also charged with criminal trespass, harassment and attempted aggravated harassment.

The model superstar lived in fear as Mr. Green sent her flowers, letters, even showed up at the studio where the "Tyra Banks" show is filmed.

Many of you may remember when I wrote about Mr. Green sitting at MacDonald's, across the street from Tyra's studio, where he waited for her to exit. Now Green claims that he didn't mean to scare her and he did not intend hurt her. He claims to have felt a connection when Ms. Banks spoke about homelessness (and other topic's), his mind told him to go to NYC, to be close to his friend, "Tyra Banks".

Mr. Green faces 90 days jail time. His lawyers are suppose to appeal. If he's convicted 90 days, what happens after he has served his time? Perhaps the "system" should enforce mental health care.

Ms. Beatrice Arthur Dies From Cancer

By Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

Checking on line for the latest news, I was suddenly sadden to read that actress, comedian, and singer, Ms. Beatrice Arthur had passed away from cancer on Saturday, April 25, 2009. I can recall that early this year I had seen a photo of her, and wondered if she was ok.

Ms. Arthur was born on May 13, 1992. This is two years after my grandmother's birth, as Ms. Arthur is part of my grandmother's generation but because of her extreme talent she was able to be a part of everyone's generation, no matter the age, race, class and gender.
The first time I became aware of Ms. Arthur was when she did her series, "Maude", which was a spin off of " All In the Family". From that moment I was a fan. I also remember enjoying her performance, as Mame's best friend, Vera, in the movie "Mame" with Ms. Lucille Ball. The interesting thing is that Ms. Arthur played Vera, the best friend to Angela Lansbury's "Mame" on Broadway, of which she won a Tony Award. But her legacy will be "Golden Girls". She won Emmy's for her character, "Dorothy" in Golden Girls and also her lead character in the series, "Maude".

Ms. Arthur born name is Bernice Frankel, who was born in New York City but raised in Cambridge, Maryland. In 1947 Ms. Arthur studied drama at the New School in New York City. Her resume shows that she performed in various plays on and off Broadway. After "Golden Girls", I was happily surprised to see her on cable series, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" where she played actor, Larry Davis', mother.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

By Kheven LaGrone

What a person says when outraged or upset reveals a lot about them. We saw that recently at the Miss USA pageant when Perez Hilton asked Miss California her views on gay marriage. The 21-year old college student answered that she didn’t want to offend anyone, but she felt that marriage was between a man and a woman. Hilton, a gay man, was not happy with her response. He later publicly called her the “b-word.” He rescinded calling her that. Then he changed his mind about rescinding the attack. As he says, he meant to call her the “b-word.” In fact, he added that he was also thinking of the “c-word.”

Mr. Hilton says that Miss California’s response to his question alienated many gays and lesbians. Yet his calling Miss California “the b-word” is a direct affront to women—both straight and lesbian.

The fact that he says he was thinking of demeaning her with the “c-word” revealed the underlying misogynistic intent of his attack. He announced to the media a disdain for the female anatomy. Is he really the one to speak for lesbians?

Did Mr. Hilton feel that his outrage justified abusing a woman who disagreed with him? Do all women who disagree with him risk such an attack? Would he have justified “b***h-slapping” Miss California if she had been standing close enough to him?

GBM News Prepares for New Hot Video Show

Industry Vets Will Go Backstage "Interviewing Hollywood"

By Sr. Correspondent,  D. Kevin McNeir

GBM News will be giving you the news in an exciting new way with its upcoming video show, "Interviewing Hollywood," which premiers in the next few weeks. The show's host, creator and GBM News Senior Correspondent, Shahid Manning, is a Howard University graduate with over 20 years of acting and production experience. And he says that the best thing about the new show is that it allows him to get up close and personal with celebrated entertainers as well as those whose stars have yet to shine.

Shahid Manning
"We will interview local talent in entertainment, from the unknown to superstars and give the audience a peek into how Hollywood runs from the ground up," Manning said. "On the ground level we will be able to provide publicity to smaller productions and make the viewers aware that they are out there doing some great work."

Manning says one of the challenges he has faced living in Los Angeles is where to find good entertainment. He hopes that as more episodes for "Interviewing Hollywood" are produced, that the public's knowledge of quality productions will be heightened - from vocalists and dancers to actors of the stage and the silver screen.

"We want to raise the consciousness of our viewers and share the trials and tribulations of being an entertainer," he said. "We really hope that through the interviews people will leave with a keener sense of how things work behind the scenes. But more than that, we want to share the real lives of the people we interview, actors for example, and show the road they have traveled and what really motivates them. There is a lot that goes on with entertainment - it's not just the show and where it is playing - what really interests me is who these entertainers are and how masterpieces are first conceived and then made."

Stanley Bennett Clay
The first episode of "Interviewing Hollywood will feature playwright and author Stanley Bennett Clay and include clips from his new play, Armstrong's Kid [Lucy Florence Theatre]. The story is about a boy who accuses his teacher of child molestation and picks up 11 years later when the boy, now a man, returns home and seeks his former teacher's forgiveness.

"It's a great play - full of twists and turns and as we discover, things are not as cut and dry and one might believe," Manning said. "Stanley [Bennett Clay] has been in the business for over 40 years and does some powerful writing. It's the kind of piece that makes you enjoy going to the theater and is so provocative that you can't help but want to discuss the many themes that are raised."

Manning hopes to air new episodes weekly but says with this being the first episode, there is still some learning and perfecting that must occur. He says he is blessed to have some good people working with him and says that the team that has been assembled is putting together an outstanding product.

Cosby baby girl, Rudy signs for reality show

By Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

Now come on people. We should stop watching television. Keshia Knight Pulliam better known as Rudy from the Crosby show is said to be finalizing the details for her reality show for cable television.

The reality show will star Ms. Pulliam and her live-in boyfriend, Kaseem Penn, an entrepreneur. According to the Associated Press, the show will focus on what its like to be young, rich, rich, young, young, rich, what's wrong with this picture?
The economy has gone down the toilet, people are losing their jobs, homes, families are becoming homeless, many don't have food to eat and we want to watch young rich folks be rich. I don't think so. This is a stupid idea.

By Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

Enough already!!! Another reality show, say it isn't so. It's been released that the American Idol winner, Fantasia Barrino will return to television on a VH-1 reality show.

Now I love Fantasia but why would I be interested in her personal life?
Well, maybe, since she's a single mother, a recording artist and what might be interesting is that all of her family members can sing. So you know during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, you are going to hear some serious heartfelt singing. At present, she's touring with the "Color Purple".

Stay tuned, we can chit chat later.

HULK HOGAN CAN RELATE TO O.J. SIMPSON

By Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

The media has gone running with a quote from Mr. Hulk Hogan. The pro wrestler and reality show star, when interviewed by "Rollingstone" magazine, expressed what I'm sure a lot of ex-husbands feel, after being replaced by a younger model (man).

"I could have turned everything into a crime scene like O.J., cutting everybody's throat," Hogan said in the interview.
"You live half a mile from the 20,000-square-foot home you can't go to anymore, you're driving through downtown Clearwater [Florida] and see a 19-year-old boy driving your Escalade, and you know that a 19-year-old boy is sleeping in your bed, with your wife... ."I totally understand O.J. I get it," Hogan said, according to CNN.

TMZ and other networks showed the same footage of Mr. Hogan saying that he totally understands why O.J. Simpson probably murdered his wife. (Now that's scary).

Mr. Hogan did not say what Mr. Simpson was accused of is correct. Yet, the sister of murdered victim, Ron Goldman, was seen on the television stating how displeased she was with Mr. Hogan comments. The kid that Mr. Hogan's ex-wife is dating could be her son. But you know men have been doing it for years. Such is life.

WANDA SYKES SIGNED AS HOST FOR PANEL SHOW

By Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

Ms. Wanda Sykes has signed a deal with Fox television to star in a replacement Saturday Night show. It's said to be replacing the successful MADtv, which was cancelled last year.

Now its not a comedy show, but a panel discussion kind of setting where she and her guest will talk about current events, on the order of Bill Maher's "Real Time" HBO series.
Perhaps since this sister has come out of the closet and society has become comfortable with our gay sisters, I have a feeling that this show will be a success. It's set to premiere for Fall 2009. i will be interesting to see who Ms. Sykes guest will be. I'm sure Mr. Chris Rock will happen by to chit chat.

By Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

Talk about overkill, I'm not hating Ms. Tiffany Pollard renamed Miss New York by Flavor Flav, after being unlucky in love, three times on national television, she will be trying her luck in the workplace. This continued yet new reality series premieres on May 4th at 10:00 p.m.

Now in front of the camera's Miss New York tries her hand at seeking work. She has to pick one of three possibilities. Now if she impresses her new boss or bosses and doesn't get fired or quit, she will receive, get this, $5000.00 each week as a bonus to whatever her new salary may be. Talk about milking 15 minutes of fame into a career.

I'm sure the hi-lights of the show will be the appearance of her mother, Sister Patterson. Now this lady should get her own show and she should try her hand at acting, the camera looks her.

Only time will tell, if this show is another success. Lets "chit chat" and stay tuned.

America's Top Model Chaos, Tara To Blame?

By Sr. Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

On Saturday, March 14th, at the casting call for the fabulous reality show, "America's Next Top Model", thousand's of "wanna be" models, heard someone yelled, "there's a bomb!", or something like that and the crowd just went crazy with fear. Panic spread like a wild fire.

Published in People magazine: Police did not say what caused the disturbance but were forced to shut down the casting call, and arrested Michael Edwards, 24, Vanessa Quinones, 20, and Clem Clemmons, 40, on charges of disorderly conduct and inciting to riot, according to the The Times.

People are taken to area hospitals. The mayor, Mike Bloomberg, blamed Tara and her production company for not informing the New York Police of the possible crowd. I guess Tara didn't use her crystal ball.

The model, actress turned multi-talented entrepreneur, the beautiful diva, Tara Banks, is being blamed for a situation that she could not foresee. All major media reported this, calling it a "chaos".

Another source: It was pretty scary," Jessica Paravati told MyFOXNY. She said she was caught up in a stampede after waiting on line overnight, hoping for a shot at stardom on the reality show.

Since we live in a time where everyone is looking for 15 minutes of instant fame, everyone present will have a story to tell. It's said that Ms. Banks is very upset about this situation and has her people looking into it. She's also told the City of New York that she will assist in anywhere she can.

RuPaul Has A Hit Reality Show, "Drag Race"

By Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

Many may recall that a few months ago, I wrote an article about the coming new reality show called, "Drag Race", where 9 drag queens compete to be the New Queen of Drag. I thought it was another senseless idea. Well, I'm afraid to say that I'm completely wrong; it's a great, fun show.

The contestants are from around the United States, where thousands of "wanna be's" waited in long lines just to be voted one of the best. Well, if you know anything about me, you know that I battle with insomnia and early in the a.m., I was lucky enough to find "Drag Race" on a "demand" channel. I'm in Charlotte, NC, where the Logo channel doesn't exist. Anyway I was able to watch five of the episodes of "Drag Race" and its wonderful!!!

Also one of the "wanna be crowned top drag" I had the pleasure of meeting a few years ago at the holiday party, in NYC, where I'm from. That's a story for another article. But here's some of it, the diva walked into the party with her mink coat dragging on the floor. All heads turned. You could hear echoed, "Who is she?" Well, for all to hear, I said, "Nina Simone" and the room screamed with laughter. She was not happy to be compared. And she was not happy with me. But she realized, what I said was all in fun. I saw her a few times after, out socially and she's a classy lady, we kissed, hugged like old girlfriends.

Moving forward to the article, the 9 queens are likeable, beautiful, especially when the war paint has been applied, but even without make-up, a few of them made me want to move back to the Big Apple, nice eye candy and when interviewed, likeable, talented people.

For these of you who have VH-1 or Logo, you can find "Drag Race" there. In or out of dresses and suits, Mr. RuPaul still knows how to work! It's wonderful that he's back after about 8 years, the George W. Bush years.

I was quite amused to find this story on Black Entertainment News. There was an article on Lynda Carter, better known as Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman. According to the story, Ms. Carter was in her grand hotel room in Manhattan, where she was trying to play a CD. Try as she might, but she was having a hard time operating the hotel's equipment. She pressed, play, enter, select, still it didn't work.

Finally she did something and the CD started to play. The song was the famous classic Sam Cooke song, "You Send Me". What was surprising was instead of Mr. Cooke singing, it was Ms. Lynda Carter singing and as she was happy to have gotten the CD player to work, she was extremely happy to be singing with herself in two part harmony. Yes, the CD was a recording of her new CD, singing "You Send Me".

Many may not remember but Ms. Carter did sing on some of the variety shows during the time of the Wonder Woman reign. The article quoted Ms. Carter, "I didn't realize how much I missed music until I came back," she says, her tall frame swaying. "It's just a blast. It's so much fun." It also stated that her drummer and leader of her band, Paul Leim commented, "She's really a very incredibly talented singer."

All grown up, Cosby's baby girl, Ruby Huxtable tackles new role in the Tyler Perry's movie, "Madea Goes To Jail". Keisha plays the part of a drug addicted prostitute. This is new territory for the beautiful actress.

When interviewed Keisha explained, "For me, it was the biggest stretch and hardest I have had to work at a character in a role and that's really why I took it because I wanted that challenge."
She continued "What's so exciting about this role is getting the chance to play something that's so different from anything I have ever done. People would never expect me to play a role of this nature, a heroine-addicted prostitute and I hope I do it justice."

Well from the trade papers, Keisha knocked this performance out of the park. Who knows she may even earn an Oscar. It's refreshing to see a face that we know, however it's still a new face. Many times the Hollywood folk, will have one black actor and actress play every kind of character in every film. Mr. Tyler has tapped into our rich culture and reintroduced Ms. Pullman to the world.

The film is a comedy drama, and is a great film, not just for black people but for all people. If you are reading this and you haven't seen this film, take out some "me" time and treat yourself.

Ms. O. posed on the cover of her magazine, but wait a minute. She poses on every cover of her magazine but on the January 2009 she addressed her visible weight gain. Now I'm proud of the sister, she's achieved so much and it appears that she likes to share her wealth. But tell me why is it important to care about her gaining 60 pounds? Now she's 200 pounds.

Not only was this discussed on her television show but also on all of the nighttime news programs as well. Perhaps I don't see the big deal since a lot of our black women are in this weight group. Many of us have mother's, aunt's, sister's, grandmother's and friends who have put on a few pounds.

Just recently it was reported that one of our up and coming diva's wants to be a size 2. Now that's crazy. When you look at a black woman, the beauty is the structure of her body, the big hips, the full breast, the waist line, the big beautiful booty. You can't get that in a size 2. In order to get this, there's got to be some meat on the bone.

With Ms. O. she can hired a cook, a personal trainer, get the best doctors to assist in her accomplishing the desired number on the scale. Her reality is not the reality of the common woman (and man for that matter). Comic and actress, Monique has the right idea in that its more important to be a healthy weight. I hope Ms. O. realizes this.

Super Model "RuPaul" Has New Reality Show

By Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

No more, no more reality shows, please!!!!

The other morning around 2:30, I couldn't sleep and decided to turn on the TV set. You would think that with 300 different channels, I should be able to find something to watch. Well on VH1, I discovered a new reality show called, "Scream Queens".

Just based on the title of the show, I had to see what was going on. I've met a few queens in my day and thought that, maybe, perhaps one of them had become interesting enough to have landed a television show. Now this show is just like all the rest, the format is to vote one person off each week, while the difference is that the one left standing will be crowned the "Scream Queen", and will appear in a horror movie. I just threw my slipper at the television. Like Barbra and Donna sang, "Enough is enough is enough".

So you know I was surprised to hear that the most famous of drag queens, RuPaul will be the Tyra Banks of a new show called, "Drag Race". From what I've heard its very much like "American's Top Model", the only difference is that one of the "trans" (born a man), will be crowned "American's Top Drag Queen". And if you are interested, it will appear on the Logo channel.

The one thing about Ms. Ru, she's lasted longer than her 15 minutes of supermodel fame and now she's written another chapter to her story. Logo isn't available in this part of the world, I'm in the South. I guess I will have to wait till after the first season and buy it on DVD. This show might be a surprise hit on Logo, but I doubt it can top the gay "Sex In the City", yes, "Noah's Arc". Whatever you do Ru, don't ask for too much money, otherwise Logo will cancel you.

Now before I forget, "Drag Race" premieres on Feb. 2nd on the Logo channel.

Readers since its not available in this part of the country, please let me know if you like the show, give me some feedback.

NAACP gives a stern warning to TV

By Greg Braxton
Los Angeles Times

On the heels of issuing a critical report about Hollywood's minority hiring, the president of the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People threatened the entertainment industry Thursday with unspecified political actions if it did not increase diversity.

"At a time when the country is excited about the election of the first African American president in U.S. history," said Benjamin Todd Jealous, who was appointed in May to head the civil rights organization, "it is unthinkable that minorities would be so grossly underrepresented on broadcast television."

The statement came shortly after the organization's Hollywood bureau released a 40-page report called "Out of Focus, Out of Sync -- Take 4" that found blacks and other minorities continue to be underrepresented in "nearly every aspect of the television and film businesses."

Though he declined to be specific, Jealous said the organization "could bring the hammer down," including "shaming the industry," if it does not improve diversity.

The report marks some of the most pointed criticism of the industry by the civil rights organization and signals a return to the issue for the group, which has been inconsistent in recent years in keeping tabs on networks' efforts to embrace multiculturalism. Then-NAACP President Kweisi Mfume first lashed out at the networks in 1999, pointing out that none of the 26 new comedies and pilots that season featured a minority lead.

Today, only three network series -- CBS' "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "The Unit" and ABC's "Ugly Betty" -- have minorities in leading roles.

Heroes get January off for Christmas

By Derrick Anthony

Starting in January NBC will be giving it’s once breakaway but recently slumping in the ratings show “Heroes” a post holiday break. The show, currently in its third season, has met with a few problems this year.

Along with a dip in its ratings the show has lost two of its executive producers Jeph Loeb and Jesse Alexander, who had been with the show since the beginning. The show has also been panned by critics that once praised the show responsible for introducing the phrase “Save the cheerleader, save the world” into pop culture.

Heroes tells the stories of ordinary individuals from around the world who inexplicably develop superhuman powers after an eclipse, and their roles in preventing catastrophes and saving humanity. These disasters are usually foreseen in painted images from precognition painters. The series emulates the style and storytelling of modern day comic books, using short, multi-episode story arcs that build upon a larger, more encompassing arc.

It premiered on NBC September 25th 2006 and made a household name of Hayden Panettiere, the cheerleader. It also stars Noah Gray-Cabey, Ali Larter, Adrian Pasdar, Milo Ventimiglia, Jack Coleman, Hayden Panettiere, Masi Oka, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Greg Grunberg, and Zachary Quinto

Another Comic Over the Edge: Katt Williams

By Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

Another funny man sent over the edge as he's checked into a Psychiatric ward. Many will remember that the late great Richard Pryor had his demons and then not so long ago, another great funny man, Dave Chapelle and now rising comic Katt Williams enters a facility as he tries to pull it together.

I wouldn't compare Katt to Richard or Dave, as I don't find the BET comedy of putting down gays funny, as I've heard Katt, in his "pimp style" do, however it's unfortunate that another of our brothers, who's job is to make us laugh, finds himself in emotional mental trouble.

According to Katt's representatives, due to heavy touring, his work schedule has burnt him out, to the point that he began to show erratic behavior and was arrested in NYC for a gun incident. He was to also host the BET Hip-Hop awards but was a "no show", has baby mama drama, and the pressure caused family members to seek professional help for him.

It sounds like the entertainment industry has done it again, to one of our funny men. Perhaps the comic's and his "people" are to blame as much wants more, its all about the price of fame, power and money.

Whatever Mr. Williams issues are, it sounds like he's addressing them just in time as, the late Mr. Freddy Prince and many others were not as lucky. Get well Katt.

When I first saw that HBO was going to have a series on Vampires I was automatically intrigued. I’ve been captivated with Vampires ever since I was a child. So hearing about the show really excited me.

When the show premiered something else excited me as well. The characters of this show are at a caliber I have never seen before. But one character to me stands out on his own, and that is the character of “Lafayette”.

Lafayette is character that is openly gay to most of his friends on the show. The character of Lafayette is played by actor Nelsan Ellis

Nelsan Ellis as Lafayette - Nelsan Ellis as himself

The character of Lafayette is a short-order cook who works in eye make up and club wear. He also works as a drug dealer and novice internet porn star. Oh yes, he is most definitely a big flirt.

Living in the backwoods vampire-infested town of Bon Temps, Louisiana, Lafayette struggles with discrimination as well.

His smooth charisma is poised with a masculinity that cannot be denied. His character has most definitely stolen just about ever scene that he is in. He is a force to be reckoned with.

Watch below as Lafayette stands in the face of adversity

Lafayette is interviewed about Vampires in America

True Blood comes on every Sunday 9pm EST.

When the first opening credits come on I’m glued to the television as I’m sure you will be too.

Check Lafayette out on HBO True Blood
